Social Networking in the News Again
E-ngage A Radical New Approach to Child Safety Education - Online
A report in the UK by Ofcom1 report looks into the impact of social networks reveals more than a quarter of 8 to 11-year-olds in the UK have a profile on a social network.
E-ngage offers a radically new approach to promoting the safety of children and allows for the curriculum to use tools that children find exciting and identify with.
Almost half of all 8 to 17-year-olds online have a profile, regulator Ofcom found in a survey of 5,000 adults and over 3,000 children. BBC News
In the first three months of 2008 E-ngage projects have given 100’s of children a fresh and revealing insight into social networking to reinforce safe behaviour.
The use of social networking sites is not slowing down, and evidence may indicate the age range of uses is dropping despite the best efforts of the industry. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7320159.stm
This latest report comes on the back of the report published at the end of March by Dr Tanya Byron that strongly suggests the creation of a UK body to draw up and oversee a national strategy to keep children safe online. more http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7314751.stm
